Brr... It's Cold in Here:  BMS Takes on the Polar Plunge Challenge

Azia A., Staff Writers

This year marks the second time our 7th graders have raised money for the polar plunge. The polar plunge is the largest fundraiser in Virginia for the Special Olympics.

During this event people have the opportunity to take a leap into the freezing water, down at the ocean front if they raised at least $100. This charity uses the money raised to fund year round sports training and athletic competitions for children and adults with intellectual disabilities.

Through the hard work and dedication put in by the 7th grade, our school has donated 12,077.13 dollars to the charity. Good job, 7th graders!

Parent Night

Daisia N., Staff Writer

On April 16, we had our 3rd Annual Parent Night. Parent Night is where the parents come out and meet their child’s teachers and go to different sessions to see what their kids are doing in their everyday classes.

We had a very big turnout from many parents. Also, we had different sessions for the classes. Some of the sessions were English, Social Studies, English, Geometry, Algebra, and Science. During the sessions, the parents got a chance to understand and see what their child is learning.

The sessions went well and helped the parents learn things about the students classes. Lastly, Parent Night ended with the Brandon Bazaar.where 8th grade Civics entrepreneurs had an opportunity to sell goods to parents, staffs, and students in order to raise money for people in need.

Parent night wasn't the only happening at Brandon on Tuesday, April 16th.  Parents, staff and students also had the pleasure of visiting the annual Brandon Bazaar where 8th grade entrepreneurs sold goods and raised an amazing $1047 for the organization Heifer International.

People could purchase everything from a yummy dessert to a unique bracelet during the Bazaar, which took place in the school cafeteria.  8th grade Civics students were tasked with creating their own businesses and promoting their goods at the Bazaar.

The Bazaar companies and product ideas stemmed from a performance task for Civics on economics and entrepreneurship.  The funds went to the charitable group, Heifer International, whose mission is to help end world hunger.

Great job, Chargers!  Way to be learners, innovators and helpers!
